5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before a Car Dealer Auction

If you want to buy a vehicle without spending a lot of money, you should try a car dealer auction. Before you do, though, make sure you answer these five questions.

How Much Can I Spend?

This is an obvious one. Before you ever think about any vehicles at a car dealer auction, you need to think about your bank account. What can you afford to spend on a new vehicle? Will you need financing?

The most important thing here is to look over your finances to make sure you come up with the amount you can truly spend without putting your finances in danger.

What you absolutely don’t want to do is get a flimsy budget or come up with a number you can “spend around.” This makes it all too easy to significantly increase that amount the moment you set eyes on a more expensive vehicle that has some fun bells and whistles.

Also, don’t forget to consider MPG. If you’re going to purchase a vehicle that gets worse MPG than what you’re used to, that’s something you have to factor into your budgetary considerations.

How Much Space Do I Need?

For many of you, this may not be a major issue, but it’s still worth asking yourself. At the moment, do you often feel cramped because of your average number of passengers? Do you have cargo you need to transport on a fairly regular basis?

You’d hate to buy a new car at a dealer auction only to find out that it’s not going to give you the space you need.

What Are My Future Plans?

Of course, requirements change. If you’re thinking about having children, you might want a car with a bit more room. Otherwise, it won’t be long before you have to return to a car dealer auction to find something a little bigger.

Do I Have to Worry About Snow?

If you’re buying from a car dealer auction during the warmer months, it may be easy to forget about what winter entails for many of you. Smaller, faster, agiler vehicles are a lot of fun when the weather is nice, but they can be absolutely miserable to drive in the winter. They can also be expensive if you need to pay for help getting out of ditches and other common issues.

How Much Space Do I Have?

Finally, just take a look at how much space you have in your garage or outside your building if you do street side parking. This may seem like a detail you’d be unable to ignore, but if you find a great deal on a large vehicle, it’s easy to all of a sudden forget that you don’t have the room for it.

Take your time with these questions. While figuring out your budget will take a lot longer than deciding if snow is a factor, they each serve their purpose. Even though these auctions can give you an absolute steal on a new car, that purchase will soon become a regret if you don’t go through the above list.
