The 2011 Chevrolet Volt ranked on U.S.News as the most efficient 2011 midsize car available ranking number 1 within the 2011 Hybrid category, with a score of 9.7 out of a 10. It has good handling with high-tech, futuristic interiors and is available as a four-seater vehicle with limited cargo room. 


The hatchback uses a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and 16kwh Li-ion battery pack and a single automatic transmission. It has a standard front-wheel drivetrain and a fuel economy of 35/40 mpg City/Hwy. 


2. 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Ford Fusion is a practical sedan for family use and offers a dynamic driving experience. It has a good fuel economy of 41/36 mpg City/Hwy with spacious interiors and good safety ratings. The hybrid seats 5 people but has less trunk space for cargo. 


Ford Fusion Hybrid has a score of 9.5 out of 10 and thanks to its high safety ratings and impressive performance it tops its class. Fusion has an I4 2.5L engine and an electric motor, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). it has a horsepower of 156 and comes with an FWD drivetrain.

Mercury Milan is a fun car to drive with a spacious interior and a good fuel economy rating of  41/46 mpg City/Hwy. Mercury Milan is a 5 seater sedan with a score of 9.2 out of 10 and a powertrain that competes with many four-cylinder gas-only vehicles. It has a gas/electric I4 2.5L/139 engine with automatic transmission. 


Milan has athletic handling, strong regenerative brakes, and a four-wheel drivetrain but has less cargo space than the gas-only Milan. Its interior is furnished with high-end materials and high-tech features. 


4. 2010 Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius is a 5 seater vehicle with plenty of cargo and interior space and has a good fuel economy rating of 51/48 mpg city/highway. Although the Pirus styling may discourage some shoppers and has a smaller back seat than rivals, it still has a score of 9.2 out of 10. 


Prius comes with a gas/electric I4 1.8L/110 engine with 2 electric motors, powered by a front-wheel drivetrain and an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT). It offers three driving modes which you can select depending on the amount of gas you want to conserve.


5. 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Toyota Camry is a 5 seater sedan that has a strong hybrid performance, with a large cabin, and a fuel economy of 31/35 mpg City/Hwy. Camry looks like a conventional family sedan, gaining popularity among shoppers who dont like the Pirus hatchback. It has a relaxed interior with plenty of standard tech features, smooth acceleration, and strong regenerative brakes.


Toyota Camry Hybrid has a score of 9.0 out of 10 though it has a trunk that is smaller than its gas-only version, a slightly dull steering, and low safety ratings.  It has a gas/electric I4 2.4L/144 engine powered by a front-wheel drivetrain and an automatic CVT. Overall, Camry offers an enjoyable driving experience. 


6. 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Hyundai Sonata is a 5 passenger vehicle with a comfortable interior, strong reliability, and awesome crash safety ratings – making it a good choice for families. It has strong engine performance but a low fuel economy for a hybrid of 36/40 mpg City/Hwy and has a score of 8.9 out of 10.


Sonata comes with a gas/electric I4 2.4L/144 engine and an electric motor, producing a combined 199 hp. It comes with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drivetrain. It is a very secure, and comfortable sedan. 


7. 2012 Nissan Leaf

Nissan Leaf is a 5 passenger sedan with a score of 8.7 out of 10 and numerous standard features. It offers a comfortable ride, has a decent cornering ability, and regenerative brakes that operate smoothly. 


It has an estimated fuel economy of 106/92 mpg City/Hwy and can travel up to 73 miles on a full charge. Its interior is well-built and is furnished with hard plastic materials but has a small cargo area with plenty of front-seat legroom.


The Leaf is powered by a responsive electric motor, that has impressive passing power on the highway, produces 107 hp, and comes with a front-wheel drivetrain. 


8. 2011 Honda Insight

Honda Insight is a 5 passenger small hybrid with an upscale interior good cargo space and performance. It has great safety scores making it a good option for families and an excellent fuel economy rating of 40/43 mpg City/Hwy. 


Insight has a score of 8.7 out of 10 and steered and braked like a gas-only car according to reviewers, which is awesome for a hybrid. Insight comes with a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor producing 98 hp and comes with a front-wheel drivetrain. 


Though Insight is slow to accelerate and has a tight rear row, it still sits well with buyers thanks to its other awesome features.
