Wouldn’t it be great if you could somehow get yourself into a traditional auto dealer auction? This would let you get hold of a car that will otherwise end up on a dealer’s lot, marked up significantly and yet purchased for only a fraction of that price.
Unfortunately, to attend the typical car dealer auction, you have to obtain the appropriate dealer license, which is not usually worth the effort if you are looking to buy a single vehicle. Even if you intend to always use an auto dealer auction to get cars in the near future, obtaining a license is too much of an investment in time and energy.
The good news is that the advent of the Internet has made it possible for many consumers to actually participate in a car dealer auction, and without that need to jump through the many hoops required for the dealer license.
Finding the Right Auctions
There are now online auction sites that are able to list vehicles from certain dealer-only auction houses on their site so that you get access to this inventory at great prices. This enables you to bid on a car, similar to what you might do if you were seeking to buy something off of eBay. Yet, you don’t need to go after the license in order to join in on any online auto dealer auction.
Naturally, this does not mean that you should just register with any site and start bidding. You need to understand how to wisely go about buying a car at auction. For example, are looking for “like new”, “used” or even a “salvage” vehicle? What is your highest bid for the specific car or truck you want? How can you participate in the auction to ensure your bid is the winner?
Of course, there is also the “what happens next?” issue when you win the auction. How can you get that vehicle safely to your home or other location? Who can help with all of the logistics of making the purchase, handling paperwork and getting that vehicle into your hands?
This is why it is important to perform your due diligence long before you even begin to look at the vehicles that are available through one dealer auction or another.
Some Points to Look For
If you are the average buyer who is eager to get dealer auction deals on your next vehicle purchase, you want to look for those wonderful auction sites that let you benefit from their dealer licenses. However, you also want good communication and premium results. You get this when the site assigns you a formal or official agent. They can work with you to take any deposits, workout your highest possible price, and then work to get you the car or truck of your dreams. You also want auctions that you can monitor in real time, and know how things are going, and allowing you to up the bid if you wish.
Then, you need a firm that helps you with shipping, paperwork and all the rest. If you find such an auction site, you can get an amazing bargain on your next vehicle.
