How To Get Insurance and Registering an Auction Car in Indiana?

Steps to Getting the Car on the Road

After you buy a salvage title from a car auction, you will not be able to drive it on the roads of Indiana until you have it rebuilt and retitled. Find a garage or mechanic that is able to complete the repairs properly. Make sure you save all of the receipts used for parts in the rebuild, as you will need to have these later.

Once the vehicle is in shape, you will need to apply for a rebuilt title from a the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).You will need to complete an Application for Certificate of Title. You will also need to provide your salvage title (pass inspection). The Bureau of Motor Vehicles will also need to have proof of purchase or ownership of all of the major parts used in the reconstruction of the vehicle, as well as proof of residence in the state.

The paperwork and the applicable fees need to be transfer to the Central Office Title Processing. They will then issue a title for your vehicle.

How Do You Get Insurance?

It is possible to get insurance coverage for a rebuilt salvage car in Indiana. However, the insurance offered by most companies will only provide you with liability coverage. This covers damage that you cause with your vehicle, not damage to your vehicle.

The reason why many companies do not offer comprehensive and collision coverage for restored titles is that they can’t calculate the value of a rebuilt vehicle as easily, and this means that they fear taking on too much risk.

However, it is not impossible to get extra coverage. You may need to shop around and check ask for estimates from several companies before you get the coverage you want.
