Is an Online Dealer Auction the Best Way to Buy a New Car?

By Mike Richards Updated: 12/11/2017 Posted: 10/21/2015

Everyone loves a new car. However, owning and driving a new car means you’ve got to buy one, and most people think that the only way to do so is to go down to the local dealer’s lot.

There’s good news for anyone who would rather not have to deal with the “traditional” new car buying experience. In fact, there’s a way to buy a new car that’s nearly stress-free in comparison – and in many cases you don’t even have to leave your home. What is this great method? It’s using the Internet to buy a new car at an online dealer auction – and it’s the best way to go about purchasing a brand new vehicle.

The Best of All Possible Worlds

Purchasing a car online through a dealer auction has some attractive advantages. First, you never have to interact with another human being if you don’t want to – everything is handled online from start to finish. This means you will avoid having to deal with car salesman.

Second, you don’t actually have to attend an auction in person in order to bid on a new car up for auction – and if you’ve ever been to an auction, you can know what a chaotic experience that can be. The only thing you can’t do on an online auction site is physically get your hands on a car up for auction. However, you can read up on all the relevant statistics and specifications of a particular car you want to bid on.

Additionally since you’re shopping for new cars you won’t have to worry about a previous owner’s treatment of the vehicle either.

Easier than Anything

If you were to try to attend a dealer auction in person, you would likely be turned away right at the door. This is because these types of auctions live up to their name: you’re only allowed inside if you have a car dealer’s license.

While this doesn’t mean you won’t ever be able to find a way inside otherwise – as you can tag along with someone with a dealer’s license if you know a friend or family member who has one – it certainly makes things much more difficult than they would be otherwise.

However, with an online dealer auction this isn’t nearly as much of an issue. That’s because there are a number of third-party companies who have their own dealer licenses and are in the business of acting as your proxy in certain auctions. You simply provide one of these companies money for them to bid on your behalf, and you’ll gain access to the entirety of a dealer auction’s new car stock.

Incredibly Convenient

Shopping for cars from an online dealer auction is also incredibly convenient, especially when you are using a third-party proxy bidder. The vast majority of these companies will not only bid on your behalf, but they will also then transport your newly-won car directly to your driveway in many cases.

Additionally, the companies that provide these online auction services are often capable of shipping your newly-won car overseas if are living in a foreign country. As long as you’re willing to pay or the shipping costs and any import taxes or tariffs associated, these companies will ensure your car or truck is safely prepared for transport in order for it to arrive without incident.

These companies will even prepare and take care of the documents you’ll need for the vehicle to pass customs. The most you will have to do is to show up at the dock – or send someone there who you’ve appointed – in order to pick up the vehicle and have it transported to your home address.
