Is the Tucson or Santa Fe Bigger?

By Mike Richards Updated: 07/26/2022 Posted: 08/23/2019

The Tucson and Santa Fe are two of the relatively more affordable Hyundai SUVs. But is the Tucson or Santa Fe bigger?

There are certainly differences between the two, and the simple answer to the question is that the Santa Fe is the bigger one of the two. It is taller, wider and longer. But does this mean it is more comfortable, or offers more legroom than its smaller sibling? Let’s look into the specifics in more detail.

In terms of price, the Tucson is the cheaper option at $22,550 starting MSRP for the 2018 model year. The 2018 Santa Fe starts at $24,950 MSRP.

According to a J.D. Power ranking used by U.S. News when reviewing vehicles, the Santa Fe has a lower predicted reliability score: 3.5 compared to 4 out of 5 for the Tucson.

In terms of comfort (and this may come as a surprise) the Tucson is the better option. While the Santa Fe offers a third row, and a total of 7 seats, the rear bench is designed for kids. The back seat is not as comfortable as the Tucson’s, although there is more legroom in the larger Santa Fe. However, the Tucson offers more upgrade options like heated seats.

When you open the boot, and fold the third row of seats down, the Santa Fe is the hands down winner. It offers 40.9 cubic feet of cargo space, 10 more than its smaller sibling. When all the seats are folded down, the difference widens with the Santa Fee offering 80 cubic feet of cargo space compared to the Tucson’s 61.9.

When it comes to the driver and the cockpit, both models are similarly equipped and similar materials have been used, making the differentiation difficult. However, the Santa Fe does come with a longer list of standard features but the upgrades list is fairly similar.

There are a few more differences like acceleration (Santa Fe) or fuel economy (Tucson) but in the end, it depends on what you are looking for in an SUV. If it is sheer size, the Santa Fe is your go-to SUV.

Buying a Hyundai Tucson or Santa Fe Cheaper

If you are interested in buying these or other vehicles, you’ll be happy to learn that there are better and cheaper alternatives to going down to your local dealership. Instead, you can go to an online platform like Auto Auction Mall that gives you access to hundreds of thousands of vehicles from auctions all across the country.

Auto auctions are a much cheaper alternative to your traditional ways of sourcing vehicles. In fact, auto auctions are where dealers source their vehicles, in particular in so-called dealer auctions. These are auctions where you will find good quality vehicles at much lower prices. By buying at these auctions, you will save on the dealer’s markup – and all from the comfort of your home.

Usually, you’d need a dealer’s license to get access to these auctions. But Auto Auction Mall can lend you their license. This means you can browse through the auction inventories, get all the information you need and choose the vehicle that suits you best. Then Auto Auction Mall can bid on your behalf, up to the maximum bid limit you set.

In the end, chances are you get the car you want at a much lower price. On top of that, Auto Auction Mall can give you all the information you need, deal with the paperwork and even arrange shipping.
