Toyota is a prestigious car manufacturing firm with its main plant in the technology-embracing country of Japan. The brand has for years made a name with its game-changing automobiles. Toyota vehicles are famous for their hardiness, affordability and the availability of spare parts, which also come relatively cheap in the market.

In the automobile industry, Toyota has built some of the most iconic vehicles on the road. Some of these vehicles are still kept in garages and homes as antique collectables despite being past their prime.

We show you here some of the greatest Toyota ever built.

1. 1949 Toyota SA

The Toyota SA was the first passenger car manufactured by Toyota after World War 2. Like the famous Beetle, this two-door family car has a beetle-like shape. It was a rear wheel drive with the engine at the front. Toyota produced few units of this car, but it was their first step to a successful history as a car manufacturer. This car is among the greatest as it created a pathway to concepts for future Toyota sedans and hatchbacks.

2. 1960 Land Cruiser FJ40

The land cruiser FJ40 was a compact SUV manufactured in 1960, the precursor to the modern day Land Cruiser and other Toyota sports utility vehicles. Its production ran from 1960-1984 in its Japan plant and 1968-2001 in its Brazil plant. It was a two-door model with the short, medium and long base versions each with their respective diesel and petrol run engines versions. This SUV is among the best as it was hardy and could move in all terrains at the time. It provided a good benchmark concept for future sturdy SUVs.

3. Toyota Sports 800 (1965)

The Toyota Sports 800 was Toyota’s first sports car in the golden age of sports and race car manufacturing. The two-door car was a rear wheel drive with an engine displacement of about 700cc. This engine was able to make the light chassis go to speeds of up to 100 miles per hour on the race track, an impressive feat at the time. The cars had both left-hand drive and right-hand drive versions. We include this car in this list because it made Toyota’s name in the sports car category, which at the time was dominated by European cars.

4. Toyota 1967 2000GT

The Toyota 1967 2000GT is a two-door sports car manufactured from 1967 to 1971. As a limited edition, Toyota only made 351 units, and it performed well in motor shows. This car showed that Toyota could hold its own against its European counterparts in the manufacture of powerful and efficient sports cars. Great things are rare, and the rarity and collectability of this car make it an awesome vehicle in this age.

5. 1971 Toyota Celica

The first generation of what would introduce us to the resilient and beautiful Celica came in a two-door with an FR layout. The sleekness of this automobile coupled with its four-cylinder 1.9-liter engine proved very popular with buyers interested in elegant designs. The car fared well competing against the Ford and Chevrolet models that dominated the American market at the time. Previous owners preserve this timeless automobile as a collectible thanks to its reliability and quality of performance.

6. 1985 Toyota MR2

The Toyota MR2 was manufactured from 1985 to 2007 in Japan’s assembly plant. The two-seat, two-door car had a mid-engine. It is a rear wheel drive sports car featuring unique shutting headlamps. It is famous for its awesome performance as well as good fuel economy. The car came in 2 versions with a 1.5 l and 1.6 l engine with both automatic and manual transmission. Combining fuel economy and superb performance, this car deserves to be near the top of this list.

7. 1985 Corolla GT-S

The Toyota AEB6, also known as the Corolla GT-S, is an automobile manufactured from 1983-1987, used in racing circuits as well as day-to-day driving. It packed impressive power in performance as well as efficiency in fuel consumption. This car is among Toyotas greatest builds owing to its versatility.

8. 1990 Toyota Sera

The Toyota Sera was a 3-door hatchback coupe in production from 1990 to 1996. This sports compact car was a front wheel drive with a 4-speed automatic consumption or a 5-speed automatic consumption running in a 1.5liter engine. With many more features, the Sera was among the best-marketed racecars of the 1990s. Its distinct shape and features that were rare at the time make this car rank among the top cars from Toyota.

9. 1992 Camry

The 1992 Camry was a member of a larger family group and was in the line of production from 1990 to 1994. It featured a sedan as well as a station wagon version that fared well in fuel economy as well as performance and handling. The Camry ranks among the best mostly due to its longevity in production and how iconic it has become.

10.   The 1993 Toyota Supra

The 1993 Toyota supra, formerly the Toyota Supra Celica, was a line of sports cars on production from 1993 to 2002. It was a grand tourer/sports car with a power output of about 132 horsepower. The Toyota Highlander is a recent production from Toyota. This awesome SUV boasts a superb performance, off-road capabilities, and fuel efficiency. It runs on a powerful V6 engine with standard high tech features coupled with maximum interior space and comfort. The Highlander is a very good automobile owing to its off-road capabilities, its powerful nature, and its long history.

The Toyota Sienna is a minivan suitable for family outings. It comes with a powerful V6 engine as well as comfort and space both inside and in the cargo area. It has a 296 horsepower that will provide an efficient and memorable travel experience.  This is an amazing car due to its family-friendly character and its unique ability to accommodate a large household.

14. 2017 Toyota Prius Prime

2017 Toyota PriusThe environmental friendly Prius comes with a very powerful electric and gas engine with efficient horsepower from its 1.8-liter engine. It is a good family car with much space and very comfy seats and interior. We include the Prius in our list of the greatest Toyotas mostly due to its environmental friendly nature coupled with superb performance.

15. Toyota Aygo 2018

Since its launch in 2015, Toyota Aygo has seen changes and the 2018 series come up with projector headlamps which are relatively large. They feature LED lights that run during the day. It comes in a sporty form with wide rear window, sloping roofline, and great tail lamps. It includes uniquely designed power-adjustable side mirrors, electric windows, air conditioning, VSC, HAC, break Assist functionality, and a quieter engine.  Uniqueness and innovation placed this car on the list.

These are among the greatest Toyotas ever, and any Toyota fan will have owned any of these at one time or another, or still owns them as antiques or as their day-to-day car.
