Ghana’s market was no different as sales kept falling due to the pandemic and it is struggling to recover. 

 

According to Focus2move in August 2021, 36.7% of auto sales drop compared to the same time in 2020, this can be attributed to the economy shutting down because of the pandemic.  

 

But even after the lockdown and post-COVID Ghana’s automobile market is still trying to recover from the hit as it recorded a 6.4% decrease in auto sales in Q1 of 2021 compared to Q1 in 2020. 

 

Not to be a buzzkill… on the bright side, Ghana’s automobile market has begun to recover and we are seeing sales gradually climb back up.

Top 3 Fastest-Selling Sedans

If you are asked to draw a vehicle, chances are you would draw a sedan.  

 

Sedans make up the most popular vehicles in the world and have always retained a spot. 

 

Mostly thanks to their superb fuel economy, affordable price, and reliable performance. Sedans also have the upper hand in safety and security. So if you are for affordability and saving on fuel, sedans are a great option for you.

  1. Toyota Corolla

The Corolla is popular and one of the fastest-selling vehicles in Ghana as well as a lot of other African countries and Nigeria. Corolla is a four-door sedan that is also available as a hatchback, that is affordable with safety features including adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warnings, and active lane control. 

 

It is one of the leading vehicles in Ghana because of its affordability, availability of parts, and most importantly fuel efficiency. 

 

The most recent Corolla comes with a more stylish body. It offers a comfortable ride with an elegant refined cabin, and a spacious back seat in the sedan. Corolla comes with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. 

 

The Corolla uses a 139-hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder targeted at fuel economy and a 169-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder that pairs with a CVT or optional six-speed manual transmission. The sedan offers a hybrid model which uses the Prius drivetrain.  

 

The EPA estimates fuel efficiency for the hybrid at city/highway 53/52 mpg. The 2.0-liter engine is estimated at 40 mpg highway and the 1-8-liter engine is estimated at 38 mpg highway.  

 

  1. Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is a small car but has a  more upscale appearance. If you are about a pleasant and comfortable ride, the Civic is a good option for you. It has a pleasant and comfortable cabin and comes with an affordable price tag. 

 

Civic offers the driver affordability, reliability, and an efficient driving experience. 

 

The Civic combines power and fuel efficiency with fuel efficiency ratings of 30/37 mpg and a 2.0-liter engine that supplies 158 hp 138 lb-ft torque. It also has a 1.5-liter turbocharged unit. 

 

The latest model has a 1.5-liter engine that produces 180 hp and torque of 177 lb-ft on 87-octane gasoline. It comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and a 6-speed manual transmission which allows you to move faster.

The most fuel-efficient Civic model is the mid-range EX,  with ratings of 33 mpg city, 42 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined.

The C-Class comes with a 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, enhanced by a 48-volt hybrid system that offers up to 20horsepower. 

 

It also comes with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that produces  385 hp and torque of 384 lb-ft and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that produces 469-503 hp and a torque of 479-516 lb-ft.

 

It comes with an all-wheel-drive as an option while the rear-wheel-drive is the standard setup and a 9-speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy is 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

  1. Honda CR-V

The CR-V is fun to drive, spacious with an upscale cabin aura. It has very innovative interior details and is a huge save on fuel thanks to its great fuel economy for both powertrains.

 

The CR-V comes with a turbocharged 1.5-liter unit, supplies 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with continuously variable automatic transmission (CVTs) available. The hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors that combine for 212 hp

 

The fuel economy is 27-28/32-34 mpg city/highway – you will be saving a ton on fuel.

 

  1. Toyota Highlander

Toyota Highlander is a practical, comfortable, and stylish SUV, that comes with standard. cargo capacity good safety scores and driver-assistance features. The Highlander is also available as a fuel-saving hybrid vehicle. 

 

The Highlander comes with a 295-hp 3.5-liter V-6, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors team are combined to supply 243 hp in the Hybrid with continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and option between front- and all-wheel drive.

 

The hybrid powertrain offers more fuel efficiency than the standard model. The EPA estimates that the Highlander V-6 is 21/29 mpg city/highway while the hybrid is 36 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.

 

  1. Nissan rogue

The Nissan has the Honda-like practicality with a roomy back seat and an improved interior quality.

Rogue comes with a  2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, 181-hp at 6000 rpm, the torque of 181 lb-ft at 3600 rpm, and a continuously variable automatic transmission. 

 

The EPA fuel economy estimate is combined/city/highway: 28/25/32 mpg.

Its hybrid powertrain is Ford’s PowerBoost which combines the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with an electric motor and a battery pack of 430 hp, 570 lb-ft. It comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission. 

 

The EPA fuel efficiency estimate is combined/city/highway 24/24/24 mpg. 

 

2 Toyota Tacoma

Toyota Tacoma is rugged, reliable, has great off-roading capabilities, and comes with driver-assistance tech. 

 

Tacoma’s interior comes with tough styling elements, nicer materials, and modern features.

 

Tacoma’s standard engine is a 2.7-liter I-4 that supplies 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. It comes with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. It comes with RWD as standard and 4WD as an option. The  EPA  fuel economy with the automatic transmission 20/23 mpg city/highway (RWD), or 19/22 mpg city/highway (4WD).

 

The 3.5-liter V-6 engine supplies 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque which is also available as an upgrade. It comes with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. 

 

The EPA fuel economy with the automatic transmission is 19/24 mpg city/highway (RWD), or 18/22 city/highway (4WD). The manual transmission in TRD Pro trim has a fuel economy of 17/20 mpg city/highway.

 

  1. Toyota Tundra

Toyota Tundra comes with a standard V-8 engine, with off-road capabilities in the TRD Pro model, and has an attractive exterior.

 

Tundra has more refined powertrains and rear suspension. Its crew cab offers a longer 6.5-footbed with a much nicer interior. Tundra can tow up to 12,000 pounds and comes with a suite of driver assists as its standard.

 

Every Tundra model comes with a 5.7-liter V-6,  produces 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. It comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It comes with a standard RWD while 4WD is optional. The EPA fuel economy for all models is 13/17 mpg city/highway.
