Hyundai announced the introduction of the N series in 2013. This car comes with five drive modes which can be selected using the two designated buttons on the steering wheel: Normal, Eco, Sport, N, and N Custom. Some of the revamped parts that differed from the standard model include the suspension, brakes, and steering. The N series was unveiled in 2017 and the focus on this car was its performance.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson N Line
Hyundai released a teaser of what car lovers should expect when the car is unveiled in the 2019 Geneva Motor Show: a sporty upgrade of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson. The Tucson is expected to be the SUV N Line from Hyundai. But apart from its exterior look, buyers will have to wait to find out more during the debut.
The Hyundai i30N
It takes 6.4seconds to accelerate from 0-100kph. This car has a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline 4 engine that gives a torque boost of 25Nm. This car cranks out 247bhp. Some of the features in this car include:
- A specialized electronic-controlled suspension
- Flexible Electronic Stability Control that can be disabled if not needed
- 18-inch super sport Michelin tires fitted on lightweight alloy wheels
- Maximized braking response with a brake control knock. This feature is exciting for racers and drivers seeking a thrill while driving, especially while taking corners
- Rev-match gear change function that is switchable. This eliminates any issues in gear changes
- Presence of control facilitating instant maximum acceleration
This in excellent car for every day driving as well as for the race track over the weekend. The five drive modes significantly enhance the unique features of the Hyundai N Line. There are two dedicated buttons for adjusting the settings on the steering wheel. The settings have an impact on the performance of the engine, suspension, transmission, and steering. The character of the car changes based on the driver’s interests and the environment.
You may opt to invest in a performance pack variant for the regular i30N. This pack gives the driver the flexibility to launch control and rev-match downshifting. The rev-match downshifting can also be turned off using the assigned button on the steering wheel. Without the performance pack, the standard i30N cranks out 247bhp. However, when this pack is fitted on the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, the power output increases to 271bhp. The fuel remains fairly the same, a combined MPG of 40, with or without the performance pack.
Hyundai i30 Fastback N
This was Hyundai’s first hot hatch. This model has a 2.0-litre L4 petrol engine that delivers 275hp. The fuel system is Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI). It takes 6.1s to accelerate from 0-100kph. You also get 353Nm of torque, and a top speed of 155mph. It is a front wheel drive and comes fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission. This transmission box was modified from the standard i30 with the use of carbon synchro rings. These are responsible for the faster and smoother shifts.

Once you get to the top torque, you can use the over boost function to get an additional 25Nm. How fast or slow you want to go depends entirely on the settings you select on the N Grid Control. The drive modes available are Normal, Eco, N, N Custom, and Sport.
The front brakes are ventilated discs while the back are solid discs. The ventilated discs are a stronger addition to the standard i30. The suspension is also firmer and the rack-mounted power steering faster. It has an MPG of 24.8km city and 42.8km highway. The top speed of this car is electronically limited to 155mph.
Other features in the performance model include:
- 19-inch high-performance Hyundai N tires
- An active and adjustablevariable exhaust valve system. Driver can adjust noise levels
- The front seats are made of leather and suede with electrical operation
- Electronic Limited-slip differential
- Horizontal LED daylight lights
All Hyundai N-Line series have an 8.0-inch touch screen that shows the turbo boost, power, acceleration time data, laps covered, and torque. The driver can change the settings of the suspension, steering, engine, stability control, exhaust sound, transmission rev-matching, and the differential when using the performance package from the screen. Alternatively, if the changes are made using the settings buttons on the steering wheel, these changes are reflected on the screen.
The i30 N also comes fitted with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto infotainment system. Hyundai also included a seven-year free subscription to LIVE services. Some of the services available include updated weather forecasts, traffic updates, points of interest, and speed cameras.
Safety Features
Since the N series is popular with drivers who enjoy racing and intense driving, safety systems have been put in place to reduce the chances of accidents and increase protection of the occupants. Some of the security features available include:
- Driver Attention Alert
- Lane Keeping Assistant System
- High Beam Assist
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Speed Limit Information Function
The i30 N comes in various colors. You can choose from Polar White, Clean Slate, Phantom Black, Engine Red, or Micron Grey. Hyundai also released Performance Blue specifically for the N line.
This car has a dynamic-looking exterior and stylish interior. It provides comfort without compromising on performance. It is also practical since the back seats are foldable, creating more luggage space. Ordinarily, there are 450 liters of luggage space available. Folding the seats triples the luggage space.
2019 Hyundai i30 N-Line
Although most of the features in this car are similar to the older model, the 2019 Hyundai i30 N comes fitted with a 1.6-litre turbo charged engine. Buyers also have a choice between the 6-speed manual transmission, and the 7-speed dual clutch. Other features include dual-zone climate control, seven-speaker stereo, front and rear parking sensors, Auto LED lights, auto wipers, keyless entry and start, electrically adjustable front seats, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Hyundai N line offers drivers a range of flexible options which explains the high demand for this car. Although there are standard features available in both models, owners of i30 N can increase its performers by installing the performance package without necessarily buying the Fastback.
