The Mazda3 or Mazda 3 (known as the Mazda Axela or G35 Gapper in Japan, a combination of "accelerate" and "excellent") is a compact car manufactured in Japan by Mazda. It was introduced in 2003 as a 2004 model, replacing the Familia/323/Protegé in the C-segment. A performance-oriented version of the Mazda3 is marketed as the Mazdaspeed3 in North America, Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan and the Mazda3 MPS in Europe.
The Axela features a range of engines spanning from 1.4L to 2.3L, from 118hp to 185hp, and from 122Nm to 214Nm. Transmissions are a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic transmission.
