SAAB was the car manufacturing brand of the aerospace company SAAB AB. The car brand was founded in 1945 with the first production model, the Saab
92, being launched in 1949. 50 percent of the brand was acquired by the General Motors in 1989 and the acquisition was completed in 2000. However, after having produced its best models the Saab
9-3 and the Saab
9-4 under the GM wing, the brand was sold to the Dutch car manufacturer Spyker. SAAB went bankrupt after plans to sell it to a Chinese consortium was blocked by GM. SAAB’s estate was acquired by National Electric Vehicle Sweden, that still produces the electric car based on the 9.3 under the NEVS brand.
